The temple regularly offers an introduction where the essentials of Zen practice are taught. Those who wish to practice Zen at the temple must first attend an introduction.
The introductions are generally held on one Sunday during the month. During the first portion of the introduction the beginner will be offered basic instruction in the daily zazen practice: the correct posture, breathing and attitude of mind for zazen, kinhin (walking zazen) and ceremony. The second portion will consist of an actual zazen session with the sangha. This is followed by lunch with the sangha. After having attended an introduction, individuals are prepared to continue their practice at the temple.
Everyone who attends an introduction is invited to continue the practice of zazen at the temple. The required $30 contribution for the introduction ($20 for full-time students and those with no income) also allows for one month of zazen practice at the temple with no additional donation required.
The Introduction Schedule for 2002 is:
June 2 & 30
If you would like to attend an introduction contact the temple to make the necessary arrangements.

Zazen is not an easy practice. Especially in the beginning, it requires effort and determination. But it is not difficult either. Through patient, daily repetition, anyone can practice Zen.
