What does the Counseling Center Provide?

The Center provides:
  • Individual, marital, and family therapy, including children;
  • Counseling for adolescents;
  • Family therapy for families containing an individual with a disability;
  • Group Therapy;
  • Spiritual direction lectures and workshops on personal and spiritual growth, marriage and family enrichment, communication skills, grief, and related topics.

Who are the Counselors?

Our staff of trained professionals includes pastoral counselors, licensed professional counselors, marriage and family therapists, social workers, and psychiatric consultants.

Our counselor at the First United Methodist Church satellite office is Sherry Richmond-Frank, M.S., L.P.C. Sherry is a National Certified Counselor, a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Louisiana, and a clinical Member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy. She is a graduate of Virginia Tech. As the parent of a child with a congenital anomaly, she also has a strong interest in providing counseling services to individuals with disabilities and their families.

The Center has been accredited as a counseling center by the American Association of Pastoral Counselors since 1983.

What is the First Step?

Simply call the Pastoral Counseling Center at (504) 897-5960, Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and ask to speak to Sherry Richmond-Frank. If you are located outside of New Orleans, call (888) 77-COUNSEL (that's 888-772-6867) and ask for Sherry. Our staff will be happy to answer your questions and schedule appointments.
During the first session, you will have an opportunity to talk about your concerns, stresses, and what you hope to achieve through your counseling. Your counselor will gather background information, set the fee, and discuss your personalized treatment plan.

How Much Does Counseling Cost?

Our goal is to provide quality, affordable counseling through our satellite offices or our main office. We balance the financial ability of our clients with our need to cover expenses as a not-for-profit service. Fees will be discussed in the first session. No one will be turned away because of his or her financial situation.
