Finally . . . an up date . . .

As it has done for many years the Band will be again celebrating our country’s birthday by participating in concerts on July 3rd and 4th .

On the 3rd of July we will be performing in Jefferson Parish at Lafreniere Park Park in neighboring Metairie, Louisiana in conjunction with the park’s annual “Uncle Sam Jam” celebration. July 4th we will be part of the at Woldenberg Park’s river front bandstand from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.

In the absence of our regular conductor, Dr. Chuck Taylor who is on a summer educational hiatus, band alumnus and high school band director Tim Snyder from neighboring St.Tammany parish will conduct the band. Tim has graciously taken on the task of preparing the band for what should be two entertaining concerts filled with memorable and inspiring music that will appeal to everyone.

As in summers past these concerts will include in the band local area high school Allstate and Honor band musicians along with children of regular NOCB members. The members of NOCB are very pleased that it's ranks are bolstered by these talented musicians and look forward to this summer's performances.

Who We Are

The New Orleans Concert Band (NOCB) is a New Orleans, Louisiana based community band formed in 1975.

Our Purpose

NOCB is a non profit organization formed for the purpose of providing an outlet for its members to pursue their musical talents and providing the New Orleans metropolitan area with free concerts throughout the year.

Types of music that we play include classical, marches, contemporary, and Broadway arrangements.

Our Leaders

The Band is governed by a Board of Directors that is elected each May by the dues paying membership of the Band. Their term takes effect the July of that same year.

Our Members

Membership is open to all competent adult band musicians without regard to race, color, creed, sex or national origin as long as there is an opening in the section. Current membership boasts an average of 63 musicians with membership coming from all walks of life, including medical professionals, salespeople, attorneys, teachers, engineers, scientists, domestic engineers, retirees, and band directors.

What We've Done

Over the years, the band has performed numerous concerts in and around the Greater New Orleans area. In addition to its annual May and December performances presently being held at the St. Charles Ave. Baptist Church, The New Orleans Concert Band has played for the Times Picayune Doll and Toy Fund every year since 1977, the dedication of the new wing at Children's Hospital, the King Tut Exhibit at the New Orleans Museum of Art, Woldenberg River Front Park on the 4th of July, The Tomato Festival held in the French Quarter, at City Park's Celebration in the Oaks, and outdoor concerts at New Orleans City Park, Audubon Zoo and Lafreniere Park in neighboring Jefferson parish.

NOCB has in the past performed at the Louisiana World Exposition in 1984 and World's Fair in Vancouver, Canada in 1986 under the direction of the Band's founder and former conductor, Peter Dombourian, a well respected music educator in New Orleans area schools.

The Band performed before the Southern Division of the College Band Directors National Association during their annual conference in 1988 and before the Louisiana Music Educators Association ( LMEA) during their annual convention held November 1999 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Most recently we presented a concert before our peers at the 2001 annual national convention of Association of Concert Bands held in Pensacola, Florida.

What We're Doing

Rehearsals are held each Tuesday night from 7:30 until 9:30 in the University of New Orleans band room which is located in the Performing Arts Building on the UNO lakefront campus.
