will be performing in Jefferson Parish at
Lafreniere Park Park in neighboring Metairie,
Louisiana in conjunction with the parks
annual Uncle Sam Jam celebration.
July 4th we will be

Woldenberg Parks river front bandstand
from 7:30 to 9:00 pm.
the absence of our regular conductor, Dr.
Chuck Taylor who is on a summer educational
hiatus, band alumnus and high school band
director Tim Snyder from neighboring
St.Tammany parish will conduct the band. Tim
has graciously taken on the task of preparing
the band for what should be two entertaining
concerts filled with memorable and inspiring
music that will appeal to everyone.

The New Orleans Concert Band (NOCB) is a
New Orleans, Louisiana based community band formed in
NOCB is a non profit organization formed for the
purpose of providing an outlet for its members to
pursue their musical talents and providing the New Orleans
metropolitan area with free concerts throughout the

The Band is governed by a Board of
Directors that is elected each May by the dues paying
membership of the Band. Their term takes effect the July of
that same year.
Membership is open to all competent adult band musicians
without regard to race, color, creed, sex or national origin
as long as there is an opening in the section. Current
membership boasts an average of 63 musicians with membership
coming from all walks of life, including medical
professionals, salespeople, attorneys, teachers, engineers,
scientists, domestic engineers, retirees, and band directors.
Over the years, the band has performed numerous concerts
in and around the Greater New Orleans area. In addition to
its annual May and December performances presently being held
at the St. Charles Ave. Baptist Church, The New Orleans
Concert Band has played for the Times Picayune Doll and Toy
Fund every year since 1977, the dedication of the new wing at
Children's Hospital, the King Tut Exhibit at the New Orleans
Museum of Art, Woldenberg River Front Park on the 4th of
July, The Tomato Festival held in the French Quarter, at City
Park's Celebration in the Oaks, and outdoor concerts at New
Orleans City Park, Audubon Zoo and Lafreniere Park in
neighboring Jefferson parish.
NOCB has in the past performed at the Louisiana World
Exposition in 1984 and World's Fair in Vancouver, Canada in
1986 under the direction of the Band's founder and former
conductor, Peter Dombourian, a well respected music educator
in New Orleans area schools.
The Band performed before the Southern Division of the
College Band Directors National Association during their
annual conference in 1988 and before the Louisiana Music
Educators Association ( LMEA) during
their annual convention held November 1999 in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana. Most recently we presented a concert before our
peers at the 2001 annual national convention of Association
of Concert Bands held in Pensacola, Florida.
Rehearsals are held each Tuesday night from 7:30 until
9:30 in the University
of New Orleans band room which is located in the
Performing Arts Building on the UNO lakefront campus.
