Adult Programs – Aquatics

All water aerobics classes are free to Full Service Members. Program Members may attend for $5 per class. Classes are ongoing. All classes held at the West St. Tammany YMCA pool.

Personal Aquatic Fitness

This program is designed to teach participants the skills needed to increase muscle mass, increase flexibility and stamina in a temperature-controlled pool. Learn how to use special equipment to increase the water resistance to fully train all the muscles of the body. Experience the benefits of aquatic exercise and learn how to become fit without experiencing the pain associated with exercising. For further information, contact Robin Ledet at 893-4800.

Adult Stroke Clinic

Personal Safety and Survival Course

This course trains participants in personal safety and survival skills in and around aquatic environments. Pre-requisites must be met.

YMCA Lifeguard Certification (ages 16 and up)

This course focuses on skills in rescue and prevention. Candidates will learn the skills needed to be a lifeguard at pools and in open water. Pre-requisites must be met. All candidates who successfully complete the course will receive a YMCA Lifeguard certification.

Aquatic Safety Course

This introduction to water safety requires no previous training. It is designed to be adapted to the needs of individuals in different aquatic settings, from a corporate fitness program to family backyard pool safety. Non-swimmers are encouraged to enroll and participate, to the extent that they are able, so they can learn about basic water safety.

Scuba Lessons

YMCA Scuba provides the highest level of community oriented education for divers and instructors on the principle of the YMCA triangle: spirit, mind, and body. To earn certification you will participate in classroom sessions, practice essential diving skills in a pool, test your knowledge on a written exam, and apply your skills during training dives.
